Intermediate bachata: what you’ll learn in 6 weeks
Who our Intermediate level is for, what we are working towards by the end of the six weeks, and how to tell whether you are ready for it.

Who Intermediate is for
Intermediate requires more than remembering Improver combinations. Your timing, balance, fundamental turns, transitions, body movement, frame and lead/follow connection should be fairly consistent across different partners. For our Intermediate level, we generally look for around 12 months of overall Bachata experience.
It is a much bigger step than the one from Beginner to Improver: how long each level usually takes. If you are not there yet, Improver: what you’ll learn is the level to build on.
After a 6-week Intermediate cycle, our goal is that you can:
Everyone learns at a different pace, so we do not treat six weeks as a guarantee that every student will perform every skill identically. A better way to think about each cycle is: by the end of these six weeks, this is what we are working towards.
- 1. Handle more complex partnerwork without sacrificing the basics.
- More advanced combinations should still have clear timing, balance and connection underneath them.
- 2. Use body movement with greater control.
- Understand not only what movement to make, but where it originates and how much movement is appropriate.
- 3. Interpret the music more intentionally.
- Begin responding differently to changes in rhythm, melody, energy, accents and musical texture.
- 4. Lead or follow more complex transitions clearly.
- Use technique and connection rather than force, guessing or memorisation.
- 5. Integrate personal styling and footwork into partnerwork.
- Express yourself without disconnecting from your partner or disrupting the shared dance.
- 6. Explore more advanced movement concepts.
- Depending on the cycle, this may include flow mechanics, cambre technique, musicality, dynamic styling, elastic connection or introductory Bachazouk concepts.
How the question changes
At Intermediate level, the question gradually changes from “How many moves do I know?” to “How well can I move, listen, connect and adapt?”
